Bopis is a spicy Filipino dish that is traditionally eaten as “PULUTAN” — a side dish paired with alcoholic drinks. Well, I am not suggesting that you should drink to eat this dish as it is also good as a meal, especially when eaten with rice.
I would like to warn you however, that this dish is not for everyone because of its traditional ingredients. These are the ingredients that you would see being used in “Iron Chef” and other shows that use some bizarre-o ingredients. All right, they are pork hearts, spleen, and lungs. Yes, lungs!
Well, there is no way I can buy pork lungs where I live and I can’t find spleen either, so I just opted for the hearts. I used pork hearts, but you can use beef as well. But if you still think and feel that using heart in a dish is unacceptable, (sigh) what can I say? Please accept my “heartfelt” apology. :=)
