Thai Iced Tea by Wok with Ray

A few days ago, I posted Sweet & Spicy Pork Ribs — Thai style BBQ Ribs. Today, we will be making Thai Iced Tea to go with those yummy ribs. Thai iced tea is a simple and easy beverage to make, and of course, very flavorful. Thai tea mix like “Traditional Restaurant Style” is available at most Asian Supermarkets.

Thai Iced Tea

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 4 Tablespoon Thai Tea
  2. 1 cup boiled water
  3. ice
  4. half and half milk
  5. sugar to taste

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Boil water
  2. Add tea to boiled water
  3. Cover and let it steep for 5 minutes
  4. Strain and let it cool to room temperature
  5. Fill glass with ice
  6. Add 3/4 tea in the glass
  7. Fill with milk
  8. Add sugar to taste
  9. ENJOY!

This is also popular in Malaysia, first I find it weird but when I got used to it sometimes I do crave for them

  3. Whoa! This is my most fave drink ever! Even Malaysian restaurants offer this – I always order it. When we go to Thai Kitchen, I don’t even have to finish my sentence when ordering and the waitress says “you like Thai Iced tea?” Thanks for sharing the recipe. I think I’ll make some today for myself. Cheers, Chef Ray & THANKS for the blog-visit, kind comments and support!

I drink a lot of iced tea in the summer, but have never made the Thai variety. Something I need to do! Looks wonderful – thanks.

Ray, it looks awesome! I have never heard of Thai tea before, but I’m sure they sell it in my Asian shop (they have lots of Thai ingredients, even fresh). I must taste it.
It’s funny because it seems we both long for spring, but it’s not exactly there yet, so powerful but fresh Thai flavours are perfect for this time of the year. I’m sure this tea would taste great with my pork curry.

Oh Ray – I LOVE your video!!!! What a perfect video and the mood and music is perfect for tea time! Now I really want a Thai Tea! I’ve ordered it many times at Thai Restaurant but it’s always served with condensed milk which makes it very, very sweet. I usually have it for dessert. I love it that you use half and half and sugar. I’m headed to the Asian market and have just added Thai tea to the list. Perfect timing!!!

Expecting more snow this afternoon/tonight and into tomorrow maybe even Friday. Not ice tea weather, will save for warmer days.

  10. I’m curious – what kind of Thai tea? Do they just say “Thai Tea” on the package? I want to get it! We always have half and half for coffee, so I should make this at home! And what SUPER COOL video you made! Love the relaxing music and now I am totally in the mood for Thai Iced Tea!

It actually says Thai Tea Mix. Most Asian groceries carry it and the brand that I always use is Thai Tea Mix by Pantai. Click on the name to see what it looks like. You can use condensed milk but I like Half & Half and just sweetened with sugar. Thank you, Nami I’m glad you liked the video. :)

No wonder this stuff tastes so good — there’s cream in it. LOL I can never resist Thai iced tea when I go out for Thai food.

Great idea Ray! It is almost like Hong Kong milk tea if you add the sweetened condensed milk and filter it with a stocking. I have had Thai coffee but believe it or not, not their tea. So do you suggest to brew it really strong or then does it get too bitter? Take care, BAM

I like the stocking filter but I stopped wearing it. LOL! If you steep it longer than 5 minutes, it gets bitter but that’s me. Some folks like it bitter though. Thank you for the comment, BAM.

Ooooh…this looks like the Malaysian teh tarik. I really miss that. Just love the colour of the tea. In Malaysia, the teh tarik is made from tea dust. Now I’m really missing home, all because of you :D In this cold, freezing weather, I would got for hot instead of iced.
